Stölting Service Group among the finalists for the 2017 ‚Grand Prize for Medium-Sized Businesses‘

Award ceremony for the 'German SME Award'

After being nominated for the first time this year for the „Großer Preis des Mittelstands 2017“ (Grand Prize for Medium-Sized Businesses 2017), we are delighted to be among the outstanding finalists!

The ‚Grand Prize for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises‘ honours German SMEs that have set themselves various target criteria (overall development, jobs, innovation, regional commitment, service and marketing) and have thus qualified to a particular degree.

The award ceremony and honouring of this prize, which has been awarded by the Oskar Patzelt Foundation since 1994, took place on 16 September in Düsseldorf. The award was accepted on behalf of the company by the managing director of Stölting Reinigung und Service in Düsseldorf, Ms Helga Mothes.

The laudatory speech for the award winners pays tribute to the history of the Stölting Service Group:

The heart of the company beats in the Ruhr region

„Let us now turn to a family business that has been serving its customers since 1899, with a tradition spanning more than a century. The Stölting Service Group from Gelsenkirchen, which started out as a glass cleaning company, was taken over by the Mosbacher family at the end of the 1950s and has been run by Hans Mosbacher, the third generation of this family, since 1988.

Over the years, the company has adapted to changing markets and worked with its employees to identify new services it can offer its customers or new markets it can tap into. It is thanks to Hans Mosbacher that the Stölting Service Group has grown from glass and façade cleaning to industrial plant cleaning and facility services, and now also offers services in event catering and security, as well as highly complex safety operations at railway construction sites and, in addition, complete personnel services for the operation of passenger trains in North Rhine-Westphalia – right up to the operation of an air service with two of its own jets.

And how could it be otherwise – the group's turnover has doubled to over €170 million in the last four years. That's entrepreneurship in action.

To successfully shape all this growth in new market areas and ensure it is future-proof, you need someone who is not only bold, but also listens to employees and customers in order to make the right decisions. Hans Mosbacher embodies all of this.

This consistent and successful growth is also beautifully reflected in the various individual buildings of the respective divisions, which are located on the premises of its group of companies in the north of Gelsenkirchen – close to the local football club, which is sponsored by the Stölting Group: Schalke 04. But the company is not only involved here, it also plays an active role in Bocholt's football scene, which has been centred on the Stölting Arena since 2015, as well as in cycling with the fast-paced Team Stölting.

However, the heart of the company beats in the heart of the Ruhr region, so it comes as no surprise that Hans Mosbacher has brought an exceptional advisor to his team in the field of corporate management, a former libero from the region: Olaf Thon from Schalke 04, where he organised the midfield until 2002.

He discusses development steps with him and the other members of his advisory board, draws on the experience of these experts and considers how he needs to structure his team so that he can not only satisfy his customers in these increasingly fast-changing times, but also develop further alongside his customers, with a view to establishing long-lasting and successful business relationships – for both sides.

New foundations are currently being laid for further growth and new business: in the newly emerging „Graf Bismarck“ district on the Rhine-Herne Canal, a stone's throw away from the Stölting Group's previous location, where coal was once mined and loaded onto ships in the harbour. The new headquarters of the Stölting Service Group will be built here, wonderfully situated next to a marina, which might give a hint as to the direction in which Hans Mosbacher and his two sons might soon expand after gaining experience in rail and air transport.

Congratulations on your award!
