pro Ruhrgebiet honours the driving force behind the economy and the fine art of construction

pro Ruhrgebiet is awarding this year's prestigious „Citizen of the Ruhr Area“ honorary award to Hans Mosbacher, managing partner of Stölting Service Group GmbH in Gelsenkirchen, and Prof. Eckhard Gerber, managing partner of Gerber Architekten GmbH in Dortmund.

Hans Mosbacher, managing partner of Stölting Service Group GmbH Gelsenkirchen, a family entrepreneur through and through with a long-standing commitment to Gelsenkirchen as a business location, was unanimously nominated for this year's award by the pro Ruhrgebiet board.

Mosbacher learned his trade from the ground up: at the age of 13, he began cleaning at the trotting track and, as a young man, started his own building cleaning business in the Münsterland region. In 1988, he took over his father's company. It is primarily thanks to his vision and entrepreneurial foresight that the company, which was founded in 1899 as a „glass cleaning institute“ and cleaned the windows of buildings in the steel, coal and textile industries as a regional service provider, has become one of the leading providers of security, personnel and cleaning services throughout Germany. The Stölting Service Group currently employs more than 13,000 people. Its customers are primarily local authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia and large industrial companies. The future of the company is also secure: two of his sons are already active in the management team.

Mosbacher is firmly and wholeheartedly committed to the continuity of an owner-managed family business. He sees clear advantages in consistent leadership, particularly for steadily growing companies that have already reached a considerable size, in order to build and maintain trust with customers, remain true to their positioning and corporate values, and at the same time act flexibly and solution-oriented.

The new Stölting Harbor company headquarters building, which opened in 2018 on the site of the former Graf Bismarck coal mine power station directly on the Rhine-Herne Canal, has given the former industrial wasteland at this historic location an urban face with maritime flair, underlining the company's clear commitment to the site. The company offers jobs at all skill levels, providing important impetus for the labour market in the northern Ruhr area.
